Who We Are- Bible Basics

The New Hope Church of Christ is a congregation of Christians who believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God and that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.  Only two miles from the Gulf of Mexico in Largo, Florida, the New Hope congregation believes there really is "New Hope" in Jesus Christ!  Our acappella singing combines the richness of ancient hymns with the beauty of newer praise songs.  We believe that every person can be 'born again' and start new in the eyes of God.  Through faith in Jesus Christ as God's Son, repentence of sin and burial in baptism, every person can have his or her sins washed away to live as a new creation.  God's grace is greater than any sin we've ever committed.  It is by his love and grace that we can be forgiven to live with him forever!  We encourage you to join us as we strive to honor Jesus and to live by His holy Word.

Who We Are-
Our Teens

Our teens have their own Sunday School class and Wednesday evening class.  Also, each Wednesday at 6:30 PM our teens are encouraged to come and enjoy a dinner in the Fellowship Hall.  Special activities like Winterfest, retreats and programs are designed just for our teens.

Who We Are-
Our Worship Leader

Barry Fergus Jones is a graduate of Abilene Christian University, having majored in Psychology and minored in Bible and graduating Summa Cum Laude.  Among his many interests and activities, he has a long history with vocal music, singing in quartets, choruses and choirs, performing in stage musicals, leading worship in churches and at workshops, as well as arranging and writing songs.  He was privileged to study music theory under Dr. Charles Michael Carroll.

His vision for the music ministry of New Hope is to enrich the congregation's appreciation of the spiritual, aesthetic, technical and historical aspects of the songs we sing; to "sing with the spirit and the understanding also"; to develop a deep, vibrant, dynamic, powerful worship that builds up the participants and glorifies our loving, all-powerful, living God; and to build groups of singers to take into the community in service.

Who We Are-
Our Children

Each and every Sunday morning our children come to the front of the auditorium to have their own lesson about God.  They are then dismissed to a Bible Hour program during the sermon.  Our children are loved and nurtured in the Lord at New Hope!

Who We Are-
Our Minister

Alan Watson is a graduate of David Lipscomb University with a Bachelor's Degree in Bible and a Bachelor's Degree in Speech.  He is also a graduate of Harding Graduate School of Religion with a Master's Degree in Religion.  In 1991 he received a Master's Degree from the University of Nebraska in Counseling.  He has preached for churches in Bradenton and in Clemson, SC.  He served as the Executive Director and Caseworker of Nebraska Christian Services, a licensed adoption agency under the oversight of the Southwest Church of Christ in Omaha, Nebraska.   Before preaching at New Hope he served as the Children's Minister at the Bay Area congregation in Mango, FL.

His vision for the New Hope congregation is a church that loves the Bible as God's inspired and infallible Word, loves one another and loves the lost.   At the core of his vision is the belief that God is a God of mercy and that Christians can know they've been forgiven by the blood of Jesus.  (I John 5:13)
